Björn Fåk (1959-2024)

Published on 25 July 2024
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the accidental death of our colleague Björn Fåk on July 25th. A funeral ceremony has already taken place on August 19th. Physicist / Neutronician, he joined the CEA in 1991 in the Department of Fundamental Research on Condensed Matter (which became INAC then IRIG in 2019) in the Statistical Physics, Magnetism and Superconductivity Service (SPSMS) which was headed by Jacques Flouquet. He held various positions there until 2014, worked in many areas of condensed matter physics in connection with the current IRIG teams MEM-MDN & Pheliqs-IMAPEC, and also assumed responsibility for one of our French lines CRG IN12 at ILL. Since 2014, he had wanted a secondment to the ILL to invest in other instruments and in particular the PANTHER project, Björn was a physicist very recognized in his community, both in the fields of condensed matter physics and instrumentation.

A more complete summary of his career can be found on the ILL link.
We extend our condolences to all his family and friends.
