In the intimate environment of a fuel cell

CEA researchers associated with the CNRS and the University of Grenoble-Alpes have succeeded for the first time to observe the 3D ultra-thin layer of the polymer ion-exchange polymer contained in the electrodes of a fuel cell, which hosts electrochemical reactions that produce electricity.

Scientists have developed a novel procedure, based on electron microscopy to study the structure of the polymer at the nanoscale. Ultimately, this technique can be used to control this element to develop new processes and new electrode models. These results are published on the website of Nature Communications October 30, 2014.
